These are the tests I do on my equipment, no paint manufacturer is immune:
1. Lightfast test, one month in the north light window. (North light is consistent light for most of the day).
2. Support test, I use Canvas, Watercolor Paper, Bristol Board and Yupo paper.
3. Apple test. Personal test I created to see the consistency throughout the paint line. The apple test uses a full range of colors. It shows the pigment content, whether it is high or low if it has too much or too little binder, it shows opacity, and facade.
4. Journal test. Put it into my personal acrylic painting journal with the other paints, and make notes on my findings, such as vibrancy, luminosity, etc.
5. Drying times. Each dry time will differ per support, so I tell the average of all the supports usually, as to not confuse. Average drying time for normal acrylic paints are 5 minutes without an atomizer. With an atomizer you can get about 15-20 minutes depending on how thick you laid your paint out. Thin layers will dry in about 3-5 minutes with or without an atomizer.
These tests of course include while painting, it’s affect on different brushes and painting knives.
